NJDEP Fire Ban on All Public Lands and Private Properties in All Municipalities Throughout the State
Together we can ensure a festive fall Holiday season - including Diwali and Halloween events – while safeguarding our communities!!
🔥 All outdoor fires are prohibited unless they are contained in an elevated stove using only propane, natural gas or electricity. This includes bon fires and residential fire pits.
🔥 No wood or charcoal fires are allowed, and the use of kerosene or gas torches of any kind is prohibited while this level of restriction is in place.
🔥 No firework celebrations are allowed.
🔥 The fire ban is in place on all public lands and private properties in all municipalities throughout the state.
Most wildfires can be avoided by adhering to these commonsense safety tips:
1. Don’t discard cigarettes, matches or smoking materials on the ground.
2. Use indoor wood stoves and fireplaces carefully, both can emit embers that spark fires. Fully douse ashes with water before disposal.
3. Be mindful where you park or drive your vehicle. Hot exhaust systems can ignite dry vegetation if parked or driven over it.
4. Be careful when cutting your grass or using other yard tools. Power tools like lawnmowers and chainsaws can throw off sparks that ignite dry grass or leaves.
5. Keep matches and lighters away from children.

STATEMENT ON PROPOSED OPEN SPACE REFERENDUM:
The Board of Commissioners recently passed an Ordinance to provide the citizens an opportunity to vote on an Open Space Referendum for the City of Bordentown. The Ordinance submitted a question to voters at the 2024 general election to determine whether the City should impose an open space tax. Unfortunately, the ordinance and subsequent ballot question included a clerical mistake as to the annual levy. The Board intended the annual levy rate for consideration to be between $0.01 to $0.04. To clarify the Board’s intent, it will be considering a binding resolution at its next public meeting to confirm the intended levy rates, should the ballot initiative be passed by the voters. The Board and City leadership in no way advocates for any position with regard to the passing or failure of the ballot initiative.

PRE-K Announcement from the Bordentown Regional School District:
This message is for families of children who are PreK-age (3-4 years old, or 2 years old but turning 3 during the current school year):
We have received a notification from the New Jersey Department of Education that our Preschool Expansion Aid (PEA) application has been accepted and approved. This means that our district will be receiving additional funds from the State to support our growing PreK program here in Bordentown. In the coming months, we will be opening new PreK classrooms at Peter Muschal Elementary School that are 100% free of charge for Bordentown families.
If you have a PreK-age child and you reside within the boundaries of the Bordentown Regional School District, your child will be eligible for participation in the free PreK program. Depending on the number of pre-registrations we receive, there may be a need for a lottery system to determine which students are enrolled in the new PreK classes.
As such, we are asking families to pre-register their PreK-age children using the Google Survey at the link below. Please note that if your child is currently enrolled in a PreK classroom at Peter Muschal or Clara Barton, there is no need to fill out the survey:
