You never know what kind of action the day will bring! 🦅🐍
This morning, Officer John Main spotted a very dramatic showdown between a Red-tailed Hawk and an Eastern Rat Snake right outside the City Municipal Complex! The hawk swooped in, the snake held its ground, and just when things were about to get real - a passing car broke up the fight and both animals made a clean getaway.
It was a great reminder that we share this space with some incredible wildlife. Nature has a way of surprising us, so keep your eyes open… you never know what you might spot around here!
🔍 Did You Know?
- Red-tailed Hawks are one of the most common hawks in North America. They have incredible eyesight and can spot prey from over 100 feet away!
- Eastern Rat Snakes are non-venomous and play a key role in controlling local rodent populations.

🐾 Friendly Reminder: Help Keep Foxy (and Our Neighborhood) Safe & Clean! 🦊
Many of you have spotted our local celebrity, Foxy, making her rounds through the neighborhood lately — and we love seeing how much you all enjoy her visits!
However, we've noticed an increase in tipped-over trash cans and scattered food waste — likely the work of hungry nighttime visitors (not just Foxy, but raccoons and other critters too).
To help keep our streets clean and our wildlife safe, please make sure your trash cans have tight-fitting lids and are secured when placed outside. A little precaution goes a long way in keeping both our community and its furry residents happy and healthy.
Thanks for helping us be good neighbors — to each other and to Foxy! 🧡

🏡✨ What Is a Certificate of Occupancy (CO) — and Why Does It Matter? ✨🏢
A Certificate of Occupancy is required any time a property changes hands — whether it’s being sold or rented, residential or commercial. It’s not optional — it’s a vital step that ensures the property meets safety, health, and zoning standards before a new occupant takes over.
🔍 When is a CO required?
You are required to obtain a CO when:
-A new tenant is moving into a residential or commercial property
-A property is being bought or sold
📝 Who needs to get it?
We don’t care who gets the CO — buyer, seller, landlord, tenant, real estate agent, your second cousin twice removed — as long as someone does. Just make sure the application is in and the property is ready for inspection!
These inspections help ensure the space is safe and suitable for its next occupant — but lately, we’ve run into properties that are left in poor condition, making inspections difficult (and less pleasant for everyone involved).
🧹 Cleanliness Counts
While we don’t expect perfection, we do expect properties to be in good, presentable condition for inspection. That means:
✔️ Broom-swept clean
✔️ No trash or excessive debris
✔️ Clear and safe access to all rooms and areas
We understand that when a property is being sold, the current owner may still be living there — and some personal belongings may still be in place. That’s okay! Just be sure the space is reasonably clean, safe, and accessible for our inspectors.
(Just check out the photos below — this is exactly what we love to see on inspection day! ✅✨)
📄 You can find the full housing packet, including the CO application, checklist, and detailed requirements by visiting our website, www.cityofbordentown.com.
📞 Have questions? Give us a call at 609-298-0604 Ext 4.
Thanks for helping us keep our community safe, clean, and ready for its next chapter! 🙌
