The Burlington County Recycling Center is experiencing an uptick in battery related fires. This past month, they've had two truck fires resulting in hot loads needing to be ejected onto the street and safely extinguished.
The Occupational Training Center has also had two recent fires on the tipping floor caused by lithium-ion batteries exploding.
Please remember to be diligent and never put batteries in your curbside recycling container!

NJDEP Fire Ban on All Public Lands and Private Properties in All Municipalities Throughout the State
Together we can ensure a festive fall Holiday season - including Diwali and Halloween events – while safeguarding our communities!!
🔥 All outdoor fires are prohibited unless they are contained in an elevated stove using only propane, natural gas or electricity. This includes bon fires and residential fire pits.
🔥 No wood or charcoal fires are allowed, and the use of kerosene or gas torches of any kind is prohibited while this level of restriction is in place.
🔥 No firework celebrations are allowed.
🔥 The fire ban is in place on all public lands and private properties in all municipalities throughout the state.
Most wildfires can be avoided by adhering to these commonsense safety tips:
1. Don’t discard cigarettes, matches or smoking materials on the ground.
2. Use indoor wood stoves and fireplaces carefully, both can emit embers that spark fires. Fully douse ashes with water before disposal.
3. Be mindful where you park or drive your vehicle. Hot exhaust systems can ignite dry vegetation if parked or driven over it.
4. Be careful when cutting your grass or using other yard tools. Power tools like lawnmowers and chainsaws can throw off sparks that ignite dry grass or leaves.
5. Keep matches and lighters away from children.
STATEMENT ON PROPOSED OPEN SPACE REFERENDUM:
The Board of Commissioners recently passed an Ordinance to provide the citizens an opportunity to vote on an Open Space Referendum for the City of Bordentown. The Ordinance submitted a question to voters at the 2024 general election to determine whether the City should impose an open space tax. Unfortunately, the ordinance and subsequent ballot question included a clerical mistake as to the annual levy. The Board intended the annual levy rate for consideration to be between $0.01 to $0.04. To clarify the Board’s intent, it will be considering a binding resolution at its next public meeting to confirm the intended levy rates, should the ballot initiative be passed by the voters. The Board and City leadership in no way advocates for any position with regard to the passing or failure of the ballot initiative.
