Today, Bordentown City Police Chief Matthew Simmons announces a new addition to the police K-9 Unit.  The new addition, K-9 Terri, will wear badge number K-6006 and will be handled by Sergeant Matthew Simmons.  Terri is a 14 month old Belgian Malinois.  Terri has successfully completed her training, graduating with honors on November 12.  Terri was acquired from Perry Parks, proprietor of Absolute Control Dog Training in Southampton, who also trained Terri.  Mr. Parks was assisted by Head Trainer Lisa Mattson in training Terri.  Sergeant Simmons and Terri underwent an extensive five-and-a-half month training program which consisted of narcotics detection, building searches, tracking, and criminal apprehension.  This new K-9 team will hit the streets of Bordentown City for the first time this weekend.  Chief Simmons believes that Terri will be an asset to the department and to residents of Bordentown City.  Chief Simmons stated, "I am confident that Terri will bring in revenue seized from drug dealers as well as aggressively protecting and serving our residents and community businesses.  The money that is seized from drug dealers and other apprehended criminals goes into a special account for the police department.  The department can then use the money for various types of training or equipment purchases."  The department's K-9 Unit was established in 2004.  Sandy, a golden retriever and our first K-9, has developed Lyme's Disease and had to be taken out of service.  Sandy had over 60 narcotics arrests during her short career (2004-2007).  These arrests led to over $2,000.00 in seized currency.  Sandy is currently residing comfortably with a member of our police department.
