WELCOME TO BORDENTOWN CITY CITY OF BORDENTOWN NEW JERSEY
Proclamation WHEREAS, Joe Farber began his US Coast Guard Auxiliary career in Division 6, Flotilla 9 (Flotilla 69) based in Trenton, New Jersey and eventually transferred to Flotilla 61 which was based in Bordentown, New Jersey; and WHEREAS, Joe qualified as a USCGAUX Vessel Examiner in 1987 and became a fixture at the Bordentown Boat Ramp; outfitting a blue pickup truck with white cap as a movable vessel exam station, complete with informational pamphlets; and WHEREAS, since a common item missing during vessel exams was a bailing device, Joe always carried in his truck plastic gallon jugs cut down to form a convenient bailing device. Many boaters would not have passed their vessel exam without Joe’s kindly donation and when he arrived at the Bordentown Boat Ramp in his truck, everyone knew the “Vessel Exam Man” was here; and WHEREAS, because of Joe’s caring nature, he quickly became a popular vessel examiner and soon was routinely performing more than 100 vessel exams per year with his best year resulting in over 300 vessel exams. For his exceptional performance, Joe Farber received the Flotilla 61 Bill Garry Sustained Service Award in 1999. To earn such an award, a recipient must complete over 100 vessel examinations per year for five years and Joe is the only Flotilla 61 member to achieve this award in the history of the flotilla. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that I, James E. Lynch, Jr., Mayor of the City of Bordentown, join with my fellow Commissioners and boating enthusiasts in honoring the memory of Joe Farber who dedicated his life to ensure the boating public was sufficiently prepared for their aquatic adventures; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that through the dedication of the new Vessel Exam Sign at the Bordentown Boat Ramp we shall honor the memory of Joe Farber, the “Vessel Exam Man”, and what he accomplished during the years spent helping the boating public. ________________________________ James E.
